Does 5 o’clock roll around every day and you don’t know what’s for dinner? Are you tired by dinner time and don’t at all feel like cooking? I completely understand. Sometimes I am so busy dinner is an afterthought and I am too tired and don’t want to cook.
Luckily I have a crock pot that helps cook dinner for me. It can cook dinner for me with only a few minutes of prep time earlier in the day. There are so many uses for the crock pot you aren’t just tied to soup or pot roast either. You can use it for everything from cooking meat to making yogurt. To start, whenever you use your crock pot I recommend using a crock pot liner (I use these from Amazon). I have used lots of different brands and they all work pretty well but I prefer BPA free ones. The crockpot liners will save you so much time cleaning up the crock pot. Just add a bag into the crock pot before you put everything in it and then when you are done you can throw the mess and the liner away. It saves time from scrubbing your crock pot.
One of the best crock pot uses is to use it to cook ground beef. You can make up a large batch of cooked ground beef in the crock pot and save yourself a lot of time. Whenever I find a deal on ground beef I buy around 5 pounds and just put it in the crock pot. Once the ground beef is cooked you can store it in the fridge or the freezer. It’s easy to just grab some ground beef for meals. You can make an easy meal like tacos in about 5 minutes once your ground beef it cooked.
Another great way to use your crockpot is to cook chicken breasts in the crockpot. Just add your chicken breasts in the bottom of the crock pot (it’s best to make sure they don’t overlap) and then add 2 tablespoons of water or chicken stock and a little salt and pepper. Cook the chicken breasts on high for 3-4 hours or on low for 7-8 hours. The slow cooker keeps them from becoming dry and chewy.
Waking up to a warm breakfast is amazing. It one of those crock pot uses your family will love. You can make everything from homemade yogurt to a breakfast casserole. It’s simple and easy to do, plus it saves me the time of doing them on the stove. Baby carrots with brown sugar is another favorite one of mine. You can also cook corn on the cob in the crockpot. It’s perfect because you can make corn on the cob without heating up your kitchen in summer.
If your family loves baked potatoes you can cook baked potatoes easily in the crock pot. In fact, I like to make up just about everything for an easy baked potato bar in the crock pot. It only takes a few minutes to get started and it makes a quick dinner that everyone loves.
