I have found that one of the easiest ways to help save my family money is by saving money in the kitchen. If I am careful about what I buy and cook I can really stretch our grocery budget. On the other hand, if I don't watch what I buy and cook, we can easily be dining out instead of eating at home and completely blow our budget.

If you are trying to save money and live frugally the kitchen is a great place to start! There are so many ways to save money and really stretch your grocery bill. Check out a few of my favorite easy ways to save in the kitchen.

Regrow Vegetables

Not only can you save money by regrowing vegetables, but it is also a lot of fun. If you have kids you can get them involved in regrowing the leftovers. Basil, celery, and green onions are just a few of the plants that you can regrow in your kitchen. You can see a list of ideas and how to regrow them here.

Clean Under Your Fridge

Yes, you read that right. I know it seems crazy that cleaning under your fridge will save you money, but it can. You can save $5-$10 a month on your power bill by cleaning under your fridge. I am constantly amazed at how much dog hair and dust we have in our fridge coils. By cleaning the coils they run better and you save more money on your utility bills. You can see step by step instructions here.

Make Your Own Cleaning Supplies

I love to make my own cleaning supplies. It's so easy to do and can save you lots of money. I like that I know what is going into our cleaners and I love that I can change the smells of the cleaners with essential oils. If you haven't started making your own cleaners yet you can check out 7 of my favorite household cleaners to make at home. You can also get a free homemade cleaner ebook here.

Freezing Foods

Freezing foods is another great way to save money in the kitchen. You can either buy foods on sale and freeze them or freeze foods before they go bad. I am always amazed at all the different foods you can freeze. Milk, eggs, and even butter can be frozen. We make huge batches of pancakes and freeze them for an easy breakfast. You can see a full list of foods that are easy to freeze here.

If you are often busy in the evenings you can make freezer meals to make your life easier. There are thousands of freezer meal recipes on Pinterest. I have a freezer meal Pinterest board you can follow me on here.  You can easily find recipes your family will love. You can see how I made 8 freezer meals for under $40 here.

Make Your Produce Last Longer

I hate when my produce goes bad. It seems like such a waste to buy produce only to have it go bad a couple of days later. I have found that berries tend to go fast quickly. You can use this trick here to help your berries last longer. Make sure you don't store your produce in airtight containers. They usually want to breathe a little. You can also get special storage containers for fruits and veggies that let the air in.

Also, make sure you store them at the right temperature. Potatoes, onions, and avocados do better stored at room temperature. Make sure you store your fruits separate from your vegetables. Fruits can give off a gas that can quickly spoil vegetables.

Stockpile

Stockpiling is one of my favorite ways to save money. When something goes on a large sale I buy enough to last us 2-3 months or until the next sale. It is an easy way to buy the foods your family loves and spend less money doing it. If you want to start stockpiling food you can see a list of best times to buy foods here.

Keep It Organized

If your fridge is anything like mine things tend to get lost in there until they have gone bad. Keeping an organized pantry, fridge, and freezer can help you make the most of what you already bought. Try to clean your fridge out every week before you go grocery shopping. That way you can see what you have and what you need to use up soon. Check your freezer for things expiring too. If things tend to get lost in your freezer you can use this freezer printable inventory list. It helps you keep track of what is in the freezer and when it expires.

It doesn't take a lot of time or money to save big in the kitchen. With a bit of time, you can start saving more and spending less. What money-saving tips do you use in the kitchen?
