What To Buy (and skip) In December

One of my favorite (and one of the easiest!) ways to save money is by stocking up on foods when the prices are at their lowest. I can buy foods for 50-60% of the regular prices. The best part about stocking up when things are on sale is that it doesn’t take a lot of my time. Just stock up to really save money on your grocery bill.

December will have some amazing before and after Christmas sales. Check out below what to buy (and skip) in December to really save.

    Produce

Although we don’t see a lot of in season produce this month, there will be some good deals. Cabbage, Brussels Sprouts, Winter Squash, Apples, Oranges, Potatoes, Onions, Beets, Carrots, and Sweet Potatoes will all be in season. To save some money buy the produce like apples and oranges instead of strawberries or raspberries.

    Foods

With Christmas comes lots of baking! Making cookies and treats seem to be a big holiday tradition for many families. Because of that, we will see some fantastic deals on baking items.  Flour, sugar, cake mixes, spices, and chocolate will all be on sale this month. Don't just stock up for Christmas. We probably won't see more baking sales until closer to Easter so stock up now with enough to last you 3-4 months. It's an easy way to save a little money.

There are also a lot of sales on canned goods. Stock up on soups, sauces, and more. Some easy prep holiday meal items will be on sale too. Canned gravy, instant mashed potatoes, frozen pies, and rolls. Stock up on those items that you regularly use.

    Other Things

December 26th is really one of my favorite times of the year! The rush of the holidays are over and we can just enjoy our time as a family. Plus, I love to go shopping the day after Christmas for clearance deals. I buy next years wrapping paper, cards, bows, and any decorations for over 50% off. It is one of the best times to stock up.

If you use perfumes or cologne now is a good time to stock up too. All those Christmas sets of perfume go on clearance for up to 75% off the day after Christmas. The prices are the best you will find for the whole year. If you have coupons you can even get some sets for free or for only pennies. I like to buy enough to last me all year long.

    Skip

If you are wanting a new TV or other electronics skip it this month. There will be better deals on the TVs and electronics in January closer to the super bowl. At most stores, the electronics will be overpriced this month.

Saving money doesn’t always have to take a lot of time. Just by stocking up on a few extras when they are at their lowest can save you $100’s. What are your favorite things to buy in December?
