Inside: Tired of lost lids and messy drawers. Check out these easy tips on how to organize Tupperware. Get your food storage containers organized once and for all.
We go through a lot of food storage containers at my house. My husband packs a lunch every day for work and so they really get used a lot.
Although I love the money it saves when he packs a lunch every day I hate spending 2-3 minutes digging around in drawers looking for a lid to a Tupperware container.
It seemed like no matter how I stored the food storage containers I was always missing parts. Last year when I started buying a new kind of Tupperware I knew I had to change how I stored them.
I stopped loosing lids and finally figured out how to organize tupperware without spending a bunch of time. If you are tired of lost lids and not matching bottoms check out these simple tips on how to organize Tupperware.
How To Organize Tupperware
To get started on organizing your tupperware I recommend having a few things. You don't need a certain kind of food storage to get organized. You can use any size.
I switched over to buying these food storage containers from Rubbermaid and I love them. They are way more durable than the old set we had, but they were also more expensive and I didn't want to risk losing a lid or anything.
I decided to try my DIY drawer organizer system to organize the Tupperware drawer and it has worked great! If you are tired of a messy food storage drawer check out these easy tips on how to organize Tupperware. You can see below how messy my drawer was to begin with, it wasn't at all organized.
To start take everything out of your drawer and match up your containers if you need too.
Throw out any containers without lids or vice versa. If you have any food storage containers that you just never use donate those.
Also, make a note to buy more of something if you are running low on what you do use.
Once you are done sorting through your Tupperware I recommend lining the drawer with some non-stick drawer liner.
This has really helped to keep the food storage containers in place. I love this drawer liner because it is non-adhesive.
After lining the drawer I laid out my Tupperware in the drawer and decided how I wanted to organize the food storage containers.
I divided my Tupperware into sections based on size to organize, but you can do what works best for you.
Next, I used binning strips on the inside of the drawer so I could easily divide the drawer. You can get binning strips at Rockler or on Amazon. Binning strips come in different sizes, so you can buy taller or shorter ones if you need to fit any drawer.
The binning strips above come in a 5-foot length and are plastic so easy to cut with scissors. They have an adhesive back to attach to drawers.
Cut the binning strips to the length that you need for your drawer and then remove the paper from the back of the binning strips and carefully stick it to the drawers. You will want to make sure that your spaces line up on both sides of the drawer so your slats aren’t angled when you install them.
Once you have installed the binning strips then you can add your drawer dividers.
Your drawer dividers should also be around the same height as your strips and the most important part is you want you wood slats to fit in the slots of the binning strips. I bought a poplar board that was 1/4″ thick and 2 1/2 ” tall to work with the binning strips on Amazon.
You will want to measure and cut the wood slats to make the drawer dividers. If you don’t have a good way to cut the wood at home you can have it cut at the hardware store. Usually, Lowes and Home Depot will cut wood for you.
When you have your wood cut just place it in the slots that you want to use and your Tupperware drawer is ready to be organized.
If you want to seal your wood you can use a wood conditioner.
Now you can put all your food storage containers back in the drawer the way you want to organize them.
I love this DIY Tupperware drawer organizer because the containers will stay in the areas with the dividers.
No more messy Tupperware drawer or lost lids. Plus with this organizing, everything stays in place.
You can see below how much better it looks.
With these simple tips, you can easily figure out how to organize Tupperware. No more time spent looking for lost Tupperware lids or matching containers.
