the best things to buy in september

Inside: Are you trying to save more money? Check out the best things to buy in September to save. It’s an easy way to save more money without much work.

apples with words best things to buy in september

One of my favorite (and one of the easiest!) ways to save money is by stocking up on foods when the prices are at their lowest. I can buy foods for 50-60% of the regular price. When I see a great price I buy enough to last us a few months.

The best part about stocking up when things are on sale is that it doesn’t take a lot of my time. Just stock up to save money on your grocery bill.

I can get my grocery bill to around $50 a week by stocking up and saving money when prices are at their lowest. (Note: I now spend closer to $100 a week for my family)

September is one of my favorite months. My kiddo was born in September, so of course, I love it because of that. But September is a great month for stocking up on food too!

The Best Things To Buy In September

The weather is mild in September and we still have plenty of fresh fruits and veggies we can stock up on. There are also some great Labor Day sales we will see in September.

Seasonal Produce To Buy In September

My favorite produce to stock up on in September is apples. Apples go on sale in September and in the midwest, they are around $.69-$.79 a pound.

The best fruit to buy in September is:

  • apples
  • cantaloupe
  • peaches
  • nectarines

I love buying lots of apples to make applesauce, apple butter, and apple pies. You can also store apples for a few months without putting them in the fridge. You can see all the details here.

The most in-season vegetables are:

  • acorn squash
  • butternut squash
  • cauliflower
  • eggplants
  • green beans
  • mushrooms
  • peppers
  • pumpkin
  • sweet potatoes

It’s a great time to stock up on fruits and veggies before the prices get higher in winter. It's easy to can vegetables like green beans, mushrooms, and peppers.

Vegetables like the acorn and butternut squash can be stored for a while so you can stock up if you see a good deal.

Best Foods To Buy In September

September has most kids back in school and stores have some fantastic lunch deals this month. There will be sales on things to pack in kids' lunch and some easy breakfast foods too.

These easy lunch foods tend to have a long shelf life so buy for the next 6-9 months. You can stock up on peanut butter, Jelly, and frozen breakfast foods. I usually will buy 10-15 jars of peanut butter when I can get them on sale for my homemade uncrustables.

Also, with Labor Day in early September, we will see grilling foods on sale. You can stock up on hot dogs, hamburgers, buns, and chips.

Toward the end of September when the weather cools down, fall foods like coffee, apple cider, and k-cups will be on sale too.

If you love using coupons keep an eye out for extra coupons. September is National Coupon Month so we usually see lots of great coupons.

Other Things To Buy In September

September is the end of summer and the start of fall weather so we should see lots of clearance deals in September. There will still be some summer clearance deals on summer toys and pool toys.

We should also start seeing lots of clearance deals on back to school supplies. Outdoor items like patio sets and grills should be at the best prices, too.

If you need a new lawnmower now is the best time to buy it. Plus, don’t forget to restock your kitchen with items like Tupperware and lunch boxes with the back-to-school deals.

So grab a couple of great deals this month to save some extra cash. Want to know the best things to buy every month?

Thank you Julie. This is all very helpful. My kids are all grown but I have a special needs son who is still with us. So, there is still a lot here that helps me.

    Bless you!
