We are big water drinkers here in our house so we tend to have a lot of water bottles.

I love the heavily insulated water jugs that stay cool all day.

When I started seeing the Stanley tumbler all over the internet I knew I needed to pick one up. I loved that it was small enough to fit in a cup holder yet still holds 30 ounces.

So far I have been really happy with it. Just like all water bottles it is important to clean them often to prevent mold or mildew build-up. Plus regular cleaning helps keep away funky smells.

If you have a Stanley Tumbler check out how to easily clean it and keep it free from smells.

How To Clean A Stanley Tumbler

It's easy and quick to clean your Stanley Tumbler. Some of the parts can even go in the dishwasher. I love it when I can use the dishwasher versus hand washing.

You will need a few items to clean your Stanley cup.

Cleaning Supplies Needed:

  • dish soap (I like blue Dawn)
  • dish cloth
  • Bottlebrush (I use this one)
  • Straw brush (I recommend this one)
  • If you have problems with spills this Spill Stopper is great! (I recommend this one)

Getting Started

Stanley Tumblers are dishwasher safe, so if you would like you can put the main cup part in your dishwasher.

Top Tip

I prefer to hand wash mine most of the time and every few weeks put it in the bottom rack of the dishwasher with the dishes.

You can follow the directions below for hand washing.

Cleaning Your Stanley Cup

Step 1: Add a teaspoon of Dawn dish soap (or any brand) to the tumbler. Then fill the tumbler with hot water.

Step 2: Use the bottle brush or dishcloth to scrub the inside of the Stanley tumbler. Make sure you scrub the walls down well. This is especially important if you put something other than water in your cup.

Step 3: Let the warm soapy water sit in the tumbler for a few minutes.

Step 4: Dump out the soapy water and rinse the inside of the cup. I like to use the bottle brush again to make sure I have removed all the soap residue from the inside.

Step 6: Soak the lid in some hot soapy water for a few minutes.

Step 7: Use the dishcloth to scrub the lid.

Getting Rid Of Smells In Stanley Tumblers

Still dealing with a smelly Stanley cup? Below are a few things to help you get rid of those smells in your favorite Stanley tumbler.

When the Stanley Cup Smells Stale

If the inside of your Stanley still smells you can add 2 tablespoons of white vinegar and fill it with warm water.

Then, let it soak for about 10 minutes and rinse.

Note: Never use bleach in your tumbler

Getting Rid Of Odors In Your Stanley Lid

If your lid is what has an odor I recommend using baking soda.

I don't recommend using vinegar on the lid because it may absorb the odor.

Just make a baking soda paste with water and rub it over the lid. Let it sit for about 10 minutes and then rinse with hot water.

With proper care your Stanley Tumbler can last for years!
