how to clean your beauty blenders

Inside: Dealing with a dirty, stained makeup blender? Check out easy tips on how to clean a beauty blender. It easily works to kill off germs, bacteria, and oils.

how to clean beauty blenders

I'm not really a big makeup girl. I don't spend a lot of time each day putting on makeup. I definitely don't use a beauty blender every day. However, if I am going out for a nice dinner or date night with my husband I will typically spend a little more time doing my hair and makeup.

I also always pull out my beauty blender when I am spending more time on my makeup. If you haven't used one before they are great for evenly applying lotions and foundation on your face. I like to use it for undereye concealer.  I do rinse it out when I am finished, however, that doesn't get it perfectly clean.

Every month or so I like to give my beauty blender a really deep clean. No matter what brand of makeup blender you can use these tips on how to clean a beauty blender to clean it. If you are dealing with a dirty or stained makeup blender check out these tips on how to clean a beauty blender like a pro.

How To Clean A Beauty Blender

soaking beauty blender in water

To start when you are cleaning a beauty blender, soak it in warm water for a few minutes first. While the beauty blender is soaking you can mix up a solution to clean it.

Use a 50/50 mix of olive oil and dawn soap to clean your beauty blender without damaging it. I really prefer to use this Dawn soap, I feel like it works the best.  If you are just cleaning one or two beauty blenders then about 1 teaspoon of dawn soap mixed with 1 teaspoon of olive oil should be enough.

Remove the makeup blender from the water and gently squeeze it out. Next, pour the mix of dawn soap and olive oil over the beauty blender and gently massage the beauty blender to help the soap mix soak into the blender.

Once the soap has completely saturated the sponge then you can rinse it.

Run the beauty blender under warm tap water while gently squeezing until the water runs clear. This may take a few minutes to do, but you want to make sure that soap and oil don't get trapped in the beauty blender.

Once the water runs clear then you can check the makeup blender for any stains. If your beauty blender is badly stained you may want to wash it again. Just follow the steps above to clean it again.

After you are done cleaning the beauty blender then you will want to disinfect it. There are so many germs in the bathroom and on our hands that can get transferred to the beauty blender. You don't want to be putting those germs around your nose and eyes.

Spending a few minutes disinfecting your beauty blender after cleaning it is important. To disinfect your beauty blender take a microwave safe bowl and fill it with water. Then add your beauty blender to the bowl and make sure that it soaks up some water.

Place the bowl in the microwave and then run the microwave on high for 30 seconds. Let the bowl sit in the microwave for about 5 minutes to cool down and then remove the bowl.

Gently squeeze the beauty blender to remove any excess water and then let it sit out to dry. Once the beauty blender is completely dry you can store it like normal.

With these simple tips, you can see how to clean a beauty blender like a pro. Your makeup blenders will last longer and you don't need to buy the expensive brand name cleaners.
