How To Get Mascara Out Of The Carpet

It only takes a few minutes and some things you probably already have around the house to get rid of those black smudges in the carpet. You will need the following things to get mascara stains out of the carpet.

    • Dawn Dish Soap
    • Paper Towels or Microfiber Clothes
    • Water
    • Old Toothbrush
    • Vacuum

    Getting Started

To get started I recommend letting the mascara dry completely. Then, use an old toothbrush and scrub at the dry stain. This will help loosen and break away some of the mascara.

Once you have loosened some of the stains then grab a vacuum and vacuum up the mascara that has flaked away.

Next, dampen a paper towel or microfiber cloth with some cold water. Gently blot at the mascara stain. You want to make sure to blot, not rub because you don't want to spread the mascara any more across the carpet.

Once you have removed as much as you can by blotting with cold water, you can use some soap to get up the last of the mascara.

Using Dish Soap To Remove Mascara

To remove the remaining bit of mascara I recommend using dawn dish soap. A lot of mascaras have oil in them so the dish soap helps dissolve the oils. It can get really soapy really quick which is why it is best to remove as much of it as you can before adding soap.

To use the dish soap to remove the mascara add a tiny drop of liquid dish soap to a damp paper towel or microfiber cloth.

Rub the cloth a few times to create some suds with the soap.

Then, gently blot at the mascara stain on the carpet. Again, you don't want to rub or blot too hard, or else you will smear the mascara.

Rinse the cloth and blot some more if necessary. Continue until the mascara stain is gone.

You can see in the picture below the mascara is completely gone and the carpet is free from stains. It only took a few minutes to do with these simple tips on how to get mascara out of carpet.
