how to clean a bath pillow

Anyone who knows me knows that I love to take a bath instead of a shower. I usually bath every morning and I enjoy just spending some time in the bath reading on my kindle.

I use a bath pillow in the tub, which I love. However, it does tend to get dirty and occasionally some mildew.

Luckily I have found some great tips for washing a bath pillow to keep it clean. If you are tired of a dirty, greasy pillow check out how to clean a bath pillow.

How To Clean A Bath Pillow

To properly clean your bath pillow you will need a few things.

  • Laundry Detergent
  • Dawn Dish Soap (the blue stuff)
  • Laundry Brush  (I really like The Laundress Brush)
  • Baking Soda
  • Hand Towel

I prefer to wash my bath pillow in the washing machine because it is easier. However, you can also hand wash them so they last longer. If you are hand washing it you will also need a container to wash it in.

Removing Mildew From Bath Pillows

If your bath pillow has mildew on it I recommend removing the mildew spots with a little bit of baking soda and dish soap before washing.

Use a small bowl to mix up a 50/50 mix of baking soda and Dawn dish soap.

Then, using the fabric brush apply the mix to the mildew or mold spots on the bath pillow.

Let it sit for a few minutes and then follow the above directions for cleaning the pillow.

Keeping Your Bath Pillow Clean

To keep your bath pillow clean and free from mold and mildew I recommend a few things.

First of all, keep the humidity down in your bathroom by running an exhaust fan when you bathe or shower.

Also, spend a minute when you get out of the tub wiping down the front with a dry rag or microfiber cloth. It will help prevent mildew from growing on it.

By making sure you regularly wash your bath pillow you can keep it free from mildew and provide a relaxing bath for years to come.

Can I use bleach to clean a bath pillow?

I recommend skipping the bleach when cleaning bath pillows. Although bleach works well at getting rid of mold or mildew it also damages plastic. You don't want to ruin the bath pillow with bleach.

Can I use vinegar to clean a bath pillow?

Just like the bleach, I recommend skipping the vinegar when cleaning bath pillows. Although vinegar can get rid of mold or mildew it also damages plastic.
