One of the first meals I started making as a newlywed was these slow cooker meatball subs. They are amazingly easy to make, and because everything goes together quickly in the crockpot, they are a fantastic meal for busy nights.
Although you can make them with store-bought meatballs we really prefer the taste of homemade meatballs. Somehow, they just taste juicier and better than anything I have bought before.
You can easily make up a quick batch of these meatballs and freeze them, too. They make an easy and quick meal on busy nights.
Easy Freezer-Friendly Meatballs

Since making homemade meatballs takes a little more time, I prefer to make up a large batch of meatballs and freeze them.
Items Needed For Meatballs
To make these meatballs you will need a few things.
Ground beef or turkey- sometimes I use ground beef, and sometimes, to keep them lower fat I use ground turkey. I have also used a mix of a pound of each.
Onion- I dice and quick-cook my onion before I add it to the mix, but if you want to skip cooking it you can use raw onion. Onions tend to be more mellow if you cook them first.
Breadcrumbs- You can use some stale bread to make breadcrumbs or you can use panko crumbs. Either work great.
Eggs- this is the binder to help hold everything together.
You will want to start by adding the beef or turkey to a bowl.
Then add the onion, salt, bread crumbs, and eggs.
Stir until completely mixed.
You can form the meatballs by hand or I prefer to use a cookie scoop for a less messy approach to making the meatballs.
Place all the freezer meatballs in a freezer-safe container and label the container. Then just put the container in the freezer. If you are short on space in your freezer, you can freeze and store them in a large freezer-safe ziploc bag. Just follow the directions here.
When you are ready to cook the freezer meatballs, you can remove them from the freezer and let them thaw. Then bake at 350 degrees for about 20-25 minutes or until done.
Some people prefer to cook their meatballs before they freeze them. You can easily do that. I just think they taste better when they are frozen raw and cooked later. The meatballs will last for up to 3 months in the freezer.
Then anytime I need some meatballs I can just pull them out and cook them. These easy freezer meatballs taste so much better than store-bought.
