Water and Ice dispensers can be filled with germs, especially during cold and flu season. Cutting boards can have samonella or other bacteria on them.

Clean them up and get rid of germs and grime in your kitchen!

Can Opener

The can opener may not be one of those kitchen items you wouldn't think about cleaning but it does need to be done.

When you open cans you can sometimes get food or gunk on the can opener or in the gears.

To clean the can opener I recommend letting it soak for about 10 minutes in a 50-50 mix of vinegar and water.

Then use a toothbrush and some dish soap to really clean in the cracks and gears of the can opener. Once you get remove everything then give it a good rinse and let it air dry.

Kitchen Sink

Your kitchen sink is where you wash all your dishes and usually clean and prep your fruits and vegetables.

We usually think of our sink being a clean place.

However, your sink can be filled will salmonella and E. Coli which spreads everywhere.

Spray your sink down after doing dishes and suddenly you are spreading those germs across the counter and kitchen.

An article from CBS claims that the kitchen sink is the second germiest place in our home. Yuck!

Take some time and really give your sink a good cleaning. This is something that you should be doing every day.

I like to do it after dinner so I go to bed feeling my kitchen is all clean.

Check out some of my favorite tips to really get your sink cleaned.

Water and Ice Dispenser

Does your refridgerator have an ice an water dispenser? If so it can be a breeding ground for germs and bacteria.

Every time someone gets a drink they could be potentilaly spreading germs onto the water and ice dispenser and to other people.

Make sure you regulalry clean your dispensers to prevent the spread of germs.

If you have hard water this also keeps them looking clean and free from mineral build-up.

Check out my favorite tips for cleaning an ice and water dispenser to get it looking like new.

germy sponge in sink

Sponges

The sink may be a dirty place in your house but kitchen sponges get the germiest award for the whole house!

The kitchen sponge is filled with germs and bacteria that could make you sick.

I stopped using kitchen sponges a year ago and switched over to these machine washable scrubbies. They are easy to clean and much better for the environment because I don't need to throw them out.

If you do use kitchen sponges make sure you follow these tips for cleaning them regularly.

Refrigerator Drawers

We bring our produce and meat home from the store and usually, if you are like me, just toss it in the drawers of the fridge.

Our produce and meats can have germs and bacteria on them that then transfer to the refridgerator drawers and doors.

Make sure you regularly clean out the fridge and wash or wipe down the drawers to clean them from germs.

Not only will your fridge look nice, but you will prevent the spread of germs.

Kitchen Countertop

Our kitchen countertops get so much use and abuse. I know in our house we dump papers on the countertop, cut up raw chicken, and so much more.

Give your kitchen countertop a good cleaning at least once a day.

To help prevent the spread of germs and bacteria I recommend using rubbing alcohol to really clean them.

I wipe down my countertops with a little dish soap and water. Once I rinse the soap off and the countertops dry I clean them with my favorite homemade granite cleaner. It can be used on Formica too!

The granite cleaner has rubbing alcohol to help kill off any germs and bacteria so your counters are clean enough to eat off of.

With these easy tips you can keep your kitchen clean and free from germs and bacteria.

Clean them up and get rid of germs and grime in your kitchen!
