When was the last time you cleaned your iPhone? Get rid of germs and free up space with these simple tips on how to clean and disinfect an iPhone like a pro.

how to clean your iphone

I recently read an article that said there are often more germs on a smartphone than there are on a public toilet!

I don't know about you, but that completely grossed me out. I am constantly carrying my iphone and it's not uncommon for me to grab a snack and play on my phone at the same time.

We spend a lot of time cleaning our homes, but we don't always think about cleaning our devices.

So, if you haven't cleaned your phone lately you make want to check out these tips on how to clean your iphone like a pro.

How To Clean Your Phone

To clean your phone you will need a few things. You probably have everything you need at home.

  • Toothpick or compressed air
  • Disinfecting Spray or alcohol wipes(I use this one)
  • Microfiber Cloth (I highly recommend the microfiber cloths here)

Clean and Disinfecting Your Phone

To clean and disinfect your Apple iPhone start by powering the phone down. You never want to clean it without having it unplugged and powered down.

Then remove the case from the phone if you use one. Check all the nooks and crannies for any lint or debris. It's easy for this type of dirt and grime to get in the phone speaker grills.

I like to use a small toothpick to pick out any debris. Because I carry my phone in my pocket it often gets lint stuck in the charging area.

You can also use compressed air to clean it out if it is really bad. Apple doesn't recommend it, so of course do so at your own risk.

Next, spray a disinfecting spray on a microfiber cloth and gently run the material over the phone.

I use this granite cleaner as a disinfecting spray. It gets rid of any germs that are on the iPhone.

Just make sure you don't spray it directly on the phone and keep the microfiber cloth away from any of the openings so you don't get moisture in the openings.

Then spray the microfiber cloth again and wipe down the phone case to get all the germs and bacteria off the case.

When both the phone and case are dry you can put the case back on the phone.

Get Rid of Old Stuff

Now you can turn your phone back on. Take a few minutes to look through the apps on your phone.

See if there are any that you don't use anymore. Delete any old apps to make room on your phone.

After you have gone through all the apps go through your pictures and videos. Delete any old pictures and videos that you don't want anymore.

I have found that my pictures are one of the biggest space hogs on my phone. By deleting old pictures I don't want anymore I free up more space.

Free Up and Reset

If you want to get even more room on your phone you can use a phone cleaner app. I have used Magic Phone Cleaner before.

It is free to get and use and will free up space on your iPhone. If you use a password to open your iPhone now is a great time to change it.

By changing it from time to time you lower the chances that someone can access your iphone and get your information.

It only takes around 20 minutes to clean your cellphone. But it can help clean germs and bacteria from your iphone and case, plus free up some extra space on your iphone and keep it running fast.
