how to fold a fitted sheet

Are your fitted sheets taking up too much room? Check out an easy way to fold a fitted sheet. These simple directions will show you how to fold a fitted sheet.

Have you been following the new Marie Kondo show on Netflix? It seems to have everyone in a decluttering and folding mood. Suddenly I have noticed everyone talking about how to fold everything from t-shirts to underwear. It makes sense too. Just a few seconds to neatly fold the clothes and you can make a lot more room in your drawers.

One of the things I struggled with folding for years is a fitted sheet. Fitted sheets tend to take up a lot of room, especially if you have a small linen closet. About 5 years ago I learned how to fold a fitted sheet and it makes a huge difference. If you don't know how to check out these simple tips on how to fold a fitted sheet.

All you need to fold a fitted sheet is your fitted sheet and a little bit of space to fold it. Start by placing the fitted sheet top side down on a table or on the floor. Start folding the sheet in half by matching up the corners of the sheet. Tuck the bottom corners into the top corners. You can see below I have matched up the corners but not tucked them in yet.

Then start straightening the edges where you folded it together so it makes a very large rectangle. You can just fold the elastic sides toward the middle of the sheet.

Now that you have a nice neat rectangle it is easy to fold. Fold the sheets into thirds from top to bottom. You will have one long rectangle now.

Then fold the sheets in thirds again, then in half. You will end up with a neatly folded sheet instead of a mess of a pile.

You can see what a difference it makes folding the sheet this way. This will save you tons of room in the linen closet.

Once you are done folding your sheets just store them as you normally would. I like to store all of our sheets and pillowcases in these bins from Ikea. They have plenty of room to store all of our sheets and it easily fits on the shelf in our linen closet.
