how i save money with online grocery shopping

This summer for the first time I tried online grocery shopping. I was sick and we had just gotten home from vacation so we desperately needed groceries. I saw an ad for Kroger Clicklist and figured I would give it a try.

I always thought online grocery shopping was the sort of thing that would be way more expensive than shopping in the store. I decided I was willing to pay a little bit more for groceries because I was sick, but I couldn't believe it when I realized it was actually a money saving. I have found there are a couple different ways how I save money with online grocery shopping.

    Buy Less

If you are anything like me you go into the store with a list of things you need and come out with twice as much. As I go up and down the aisles I find so many things that I add to the cart. Do I really need them? No, probably not, but I toss them in the cart anyway. With my son home from school this summer, he is adding to our impulse buying and increasing the grocery bill.

When I am buying the groceries online I don't really see all the things I could buy. I have noticed that I tend to pick up exactly what I need and that is it. I ask my kiddo for a couple of snack ideas and pick them up, but that is about it.

    See The Best Deals

I don't know how all of the online services are, but the one that I use lets me know when the things I regularly buy are on sale. When I logged on it gave me a whole page of regularly bought items that were on sale or clearance. I was able to add a bunch to my "cart" and stock up while prices were low. They were all unadvertised items so I may or may not have noticed the deals in the store. Now I know to log on and check the deals every week or so.

    Saves Time

It saves me so much time which I can use to save or make more money. This summer I have pretty much just used the extra time to spend time with my son. It's nice to have back an extra hour that would have been spent grocery shopping.

    See The Lowest Prices

On the Kroger clicklist I can see items priced low to high. This works great with things like breakfast bars. We eat a lot of breakfast bars in our house, and my husband and kiddo aren't too picky about the kind. Whenever I need them I just make sure I search low to high in price to get the very best deal. I usually try to do this in the store, but sometimes the selection is so big I just grab a deal and go.

    Use Coupons

I love the fact I can still use all my coupons to pick up the best deals. I use the online coupons that come off automatically and then give them my hand clipped coupons when I get to the store. I can also use all my favorite apps to get the rebates once I get home from the store. Obviously, I am not saving any more money with coupons than if I shopped in the store, but I was surprised that I was able to use the coupons.

If you normally shop at a bunch of different stores to get the best deals this may not be the cheapest way for you to shop. But, if you are often busy and feel like you don't have the time to do all the store deals and coupons this is a better way to save.

My grocery bill is usually around $50 a week and with using the online shopping I have lowered it down to $40 most weeks. It only takes a few minutes to stop by the store and they have all the food ready for me. They just collect my coupons and load the groceries in the car.

No matter where you shop you can get your groceries delivered for you with Instacart. Try Instacart Free Express Membership Trial and get your groceries delivered to your home. You can easily save time and money.

Have you tried placing an online grocery order instead of shopping in the stores each week? What did you think?
